We already knew that Garlinase was pretty powerful stuff, but recently we were blown away by how it helped my husband.
Usually we take garlic supplement to ward off colds that we feel coming on, and it really does a great job if you catch it soon enough. We'll pop a couple tablets every couple hours and it will knock out whatever infection is brewing. Last week my husband woke up with terrible abdominal pain. He was in quite a bit of agony, and we were a little scared of what it might be. Prostate infection? Gallstones? Appendicitis? We were thinking the worst. We're not the type of people to run to the doctor with every little sniffle, but after a week of this pain, my hubby was about ready to go to the urgent care clinic to get checked out and get some antibiotics or something. And then enters Garlinase. I'm not sure what sparked him to try it, but in the morning after another sleepless night for him, he came back to bed and told me he felt totally fine! He said, "I took some of those garlic pills, and within a couples hours, the pain was gone!" If only he'd tried it sooner! Over the course of the next few days, the pain did reoccur, but the Garlinase kept knocking it out. He also tried some of the raw garlic from my naturally fermented pickles and found that did the trick even faster, but the results of the supplement were still pretty remarkable. Garlic is a natural antibiotic and antimicrobial, so it makes sense that it works, and it's so much better for you than a prescription antibiotic! If you have an infection of any kind that you're fighting, we highly recommend Garlinase! The Awesome Amazon Link:
Over the last few years, I've begun to make a lot of naturally fermented sauerkraut, pickles, etc. Packed full of probiotics, fermented vegetables make a tasty healthy snack! (I have written articles describing how to make your own pickles and sauerkraut if would like to learn how to do this yourself.)
Besides the obvious mason jars and lids, there are three items that I use regularly when I'm making my ferments that make the process so much easier! 1. Widemouth Canning Funnel This seriously prevents so much mess! Whether I'm cramming shredded cabbage into jars or pouring hot liquid, this ensures more of my ingredients actually make it into the jar like they're supposed to. I also use my funnel quite a bit when I'm packing my husband's lunch, as he sometimes takes a hot soup or stew in a thermos.
2. Cabbage Pounder One of the steps in making a naturally fermented sauerkraut is pounding out the cabbage for about 15 minutes. It definitely a good workout for your arms, and having the proper tool makes for a more comfortable grip and a wider pounding area. This wooden pounder also also used to pack the cabbage into the jars when it's time, and it fits through the jar opening perfectly to give a nice even press.
3. Pickling Weights
One of the biggest challenges I've had with fermenting cabbage, is that it always wants to float up above the liquid level, which makes it prone to spoilage and rot. Instead of the beautiful deep purple color that it's supposed to be, I find a layer of ugly pale brown cabbage that has rotted. Once I got my pickling weights, this saved the day! I set them on top of my packed cabbage (or other veggies that I'm pickling), and it keeps it down nicely submerged under the liquid. No more rotted cabbage! The Awesome Amazon Links:
My husband and I recently started taking zinc supplements and have noticed some positive changes in our health. Upon reading about a condition called Pyroluria (caused by deficiencies in Vitamin B6 and Zinc) and discovering that both of us have many of the symptoms associated with this, we decided to start supplementing with both B6 and Zinc. This post in particular will focus on the Zinc supplement. Please note that we are not doctors, and this info is based solely on our own internet research and personal experience.
Some of the symptoms of zinc deficiency include (but are not limited to): • White spots or flecks on fingernails • Joints popping, cracking, or aching • Poor appetite • Poor taste or sense of smell • Acne • Depression • Poor cognitive function • Other Pyroluria symptoms including anxiety, inner tension, mood swings We’ve been taking zinc supplements for about a month or so now, and we’ve noticed some significant results. My husband has noticed a calming significant effect on his anxiety, and his moods have been more stable. The most noticeable effect in my own health has been in my skin. I’ve always struggled with acne and poor skin quality, but since I’ve been taking zinc, my skin has cleared up and has a much nicer glow to it. I typically only notice better quality skin when I cut all the sugar out of my diet and eat super healthy, but lately, my diet has been admittedly off-track, and even so, my skin looks pretty good! Even Tom has commented on my “glow”. I would also say that I’ve been in a better mood and have better overall cognitive function. There are several forms of Zinc supplements out there, and the two forms that I have read are the most easily absorbed are Zinc Picolonate and Zinc Orotate. I don’t personally notice a discernible difference between the two, but my husband finds that he responds better to the Picolonate form. The Awesome Amazon Link: |
